When do we start this brilliant reality?
Where do we turn the page?
What happens next?
What happens next?
"What happens next, Papa?"
Her voice was small and fragile, just like her tiny fingers which traced happily the pictures painted across each page. They had been painted pink by her mother, and glitter still painted her face after the recital. Even after a long day filled with laughing friends and crying mothers, the little girl's bright blue eyes peered up at her father with renewed vitality. Just like every night, it was story time, and she would never miss it for the world. Her ballet slippers still twirled ribbons about her ankles, a giant sweater reaching well below her knees as her feet hung over the side of the bed.
"What happens next?"
"Well... I don't know. What does that say right there?"
Her dark brows furrowed together suddenly as she stared at the bolded script below the image of a valiant knight on his pearl steed, rushing towards a crumbling castle.
"B-u-t...the K-night." "Knight." "Knight...di'nt" "Didn't." "p-a-y a-t-t-e-n-t-i-o-n... atteyntion?" "Attention." "To... the f-a-e-r-y-s... faery's?" "Mhmm..." "words." "And he left his home as soon as he could, in order to save the princess."
He finished for her calmly, his deep, soothing voice causing her piercing eyes to droop.
"He rode through the rain, the snow, the heat and the cold. He rode, until he came upon his bride's castle..."
The page turned. A silhouette of the knight and his steed stood on one side of a giant mote with sloshing green water, the bridge drawn to the castle and closing it off to the knight. There was someone, a woman with long brown hair and blue eyes, hanging out over the edge of a window, high up in a tower, beckoning to the knight.
"Is that the princess, papa?"
The little girl asked in awe.
"I think so..."
Her father's brow knit together, as if he were mulling over his daughter's words.
"It has to be - she looks just like you."
She giggled.
Just then, the tall white door on the other side of the room shuttered with a slight knock, and the turn of the gold colored knob. A shaft of warm yellow light flung across the room, paling the little pink lamp on the bedside table.
"Where are we?"
The woman's lingering British accent was cool and slightly wavering in her exhaustion as she peered into the room, saw her bearish husband sitting on the little box spring mattress and the little girl in his lap.
"He's about to save her!"
The little girl whispered excitedly, clapping her hands together.
"Mind if I join you two?"
She was welcomed by the eager child firmly patting the bed next to her. Her mother grinned and sidled onto the mattress, listening to it creak as it took on the weight of another adult. Her pale blue eyes peered more closely at the book, then widened when they caught sight of the princess in the tower.
"Is that my little bumpkin?"
"No, mommy, that's the princess."
"Oh, I couldn't tell... you two look so alike..."
Her mother smiled fondly at the little girl, then up to her husband, who reached out to her. She rested her head on his shoulder and whispered for him to continue reading.
"Not only could he not get across the mote, but the evil witch his faery warned him about had made sure there was no way he could get across. She set the bridge on fire. She made the people of the castle fall into a deep and dreamless sleep. She made sure the princess could not escape."
"She's trapped."
The little girl squealed as the page turned.
"But the prince was determined to save his bride from the evil witch. He called the witch out of her fortress, and fought."
The next page showed a griffin type creature, swooping down on the knight with his sword and shield raised to it.
"The witch and the knight fought for a whole night, from dusk until dawn, and the moment the first rays of the sun touched the knight's shield, his sword pierced the witch, and defeated her."
"The valiant prince went back to his bride, and rescued her from her tower. Then, they lived happily ever after."
His wife finished the last sentence, watching as the little girl smiled fondly at it but slouched against her father's stomach, her eyes finally drooping.
The couple looked down on their daughter, the father closing the book and propping it on the bedside table. He slowly picked the little girl up and whispered it was time for bed. She didn't mine, sighing softly as her mother pulled back the covers of the bed. Her father carefully removed the ballet slippers, then tucked her feet beneath the covers. He pulled the pink and purple blanket up to her chin, kissed her cheek, and whispered,
"Good night, my princess."
"'Night, papa."
Her mother then kissed her on the forehead and whispered the same, before both parents left the room, her mother quietly closing the door behind her.
The little girl hugged a teddy bear to her chest, her eyes slowly falling closed to the pale pink light cast by the nightlight.
The princess fell asleep.
Imagine a life. A life filled with love, hate, joy, and sadness. Scratch that, think of two lives. Two lives robed by life itself and tied together by a thin but powerful red string, a red string that represents all that was within Pandora's box - love, hatred, disease, death, life and hope. These two lives are tied together - for better or for worse - and this is their story.

What's going to happen?
This is my first time...
I'm stepping into the light. What in the world is this blog about?
Well, it's not. This blog isn't going to be about a series of events in my own life or some journalism project I've gotten my feet in. Instead, this is a journal - a story - that can be influenced by my readers. Each post will detail an event not in my life, but in the life of another. The life of a fictional person.Or rather, persons.
It's the story of a boy and a girl, yes, but it's a story about so much more than that:
After only so many years of watching life, love, hate and death, I have smiled and frowned at the people who scatter across the earth, their actions, and their reactions.
This is my first blog, and it is going to fictionally detail the lives of two people - a young man and a young woman - who experience their lives together. They are completely fictional characters, as are all my characters - any infringement or impersonation is unintentional, seeing as these two people sprouted from my mind and my experiences and nothing else. They are fictional characters. They are imaginary beating hearts - but beating hearts nonetheless, and so I've decided to take it upon myself to tell their story.
Think of this as a third person journal, or an actual story, but whatever you do, take it and learn from it. My goal is to show people both love and hatred, happiness and sadness, and to reveal the wonders of the real world via the eyes of these unreal people. Watch their lives, learn their lessons, imagine their experiences, and change - if only by a little bit - for the better. That is my goal. May this story touch many, even if it never leaves the borders of this blog.
God bless,
Vespera ~~~
